Mauritania is an important mining industry country which located in region West Africa, with mining result which gives contributing Approximately 12 percent of gross domestic product (GDP). The country has produces a number of minerals resources that include gold, copper, cement and plaster, among other minerals to be the same geological makeup as a top gold producers in the region such as Ghana, Mali and the Ivory Coast to Mauritania has the gold prospecting to become a leading gold producer in the region. The gold mining exploration activities in Mauritania most are on the Mauritanide band in the middle and the Precambrian Shield Reguibat, second such already show natural resources and the potential for gold mineralization in this country
Gold mining in Mauritania goes back to the pre-colonial period, when the locals Mine Gold used on Little alluvial gold along streams and mountainsides. However, not much of the exploration and commercial gold mining was carried out in the competition. The first commercial gold production in the country was at the Guelb Moghrein copper-gold mine in of 2006. The mine produces Approximately 322 kg of gold this year, although the mine has the capacity to produce over 2,200kgs gold per year.
Further exploration is currently carried out at different locations. The main gold resources in the country are:
Tasiast Gold Mine
This is the only active commercial gold mine in the country. The mine is an open pit gold mine in the northern region of the country, Approximately 300 km from Nouakchott, the capital of the country. The mine is owned and operated by Kinross Gold, which acquired by Red Back Mining in 2010
The started the construction of the mine in the early 2000s and development of gold mining finish around the year 2007 . Commercial mining began there in the mine completed 2008 with the expectation that the mine will produce over 3300kg of gold for the next ten years per year. By 2010, the mine produced 56,000 ounces of gold annually.
To acquire the mine do in the year of 2010, Kinross began aimed at increasing the production of gold from 56,000 per year to Approximately 1.5 million ounces per year on an expansion program that was completed in 2014.
Tijirit Gold Project
The Tijirit Gold Project approximately 10 km from Tasiast gold mine in northern Mauritania. The project is supported by Gryphon is limited owned and consists of several continuous exploration licenses approximately 1,460 square kilometers.
Pre-investigation do the by the Shield Mining Ltd, before the mine was acquired by Gryphon, shows a great potential for gold production. Most of the early holes consists of holes 50 m and a number Demonstrate all mineralized zones. It also has extensive soil mapping and regolith demonstrate been interpretations that the potential for gold finds.
Akjoujt project
This is a gold and copper project in Approximately 30 km west of mine Guelb Moghrein away. The project consists of exploration permits made covering 750 km2 of Wealthy iron oxide, copper, gold (IOCG) mineralization Guelb Moghrein region. The project is supported by Gryphon Limited, which carried out for both gold and copper mineralization several surveys in the region.
Saboussiri project
This is another major gold and copper project owned by limited Gryphon. The project has an exploration permit, which covers on the border with Senegal over 1,000 km2 of mineral-Wealthy southern region Mauritanides.
Guelb Moghrein Mine
This is an important gold-copper mine, which is owned by Mauritanian Copper Mines (MCM). The mine is located near Approximately 250 km in the northeast of the country, the capital Nouakchott to Akjoujt.
The mine was first developed in the 1970s as a copper mine, however this mine closed in 1978 due to technical problems. It was then acquired in 2004 by MCM and production began in 2006, was mined than gold for the first time there.
